How do I see the demographics of the areas where customers search for my stores?

Searches & gaps in One Stop Store Locator & Maps shows US Census demographics for the US areas where customers searched. Choose Area profile on a coverage gap to see population, households, college-educated residents, jobs in the area and whether it is urban, suburban or rural, with charts of household income, householder age, household size and jobs by sector. The profile also lists the nearest stores. On the app’s Home page, the map popup of a US location shows a shorter profile of the area around it. Use it to judge whether an area with unmet demand fits your customers before you open a store or sign a stockist there.

Steps

  1. In the app, open Searches & gaps.
  2. In Coverage gaps, find the area and choose Area profile.
  3. Read the headline numbers: Population, Households, College-educated, Jobs in area and Area type.
  4. Compare the charts: Household income, Householder age, Household size and Jobs by sector.
  5. Check Nearest stores to see which of your locations are closest and how far away they are.
  6. On Home, click the pin of a US location on the map to see a profile of the area around that location.

What to watch out for

  • US Census demographics cover US areas only. Areas in other countries show their searches and gaps without a profile.
  • The figures describe the area, not the customers who searched. The app does not identify customers.
  • The figures are published statistics for the area, not live counts.
